A Rose is a Rose is a Rose

Photographic Fabric Print in Steel Tension Frame and Audio (4 ft x 6 ft)

2011

This work features the character Juliet from William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Juliet begins by speaking in the Shakespearean English style. Then, she repeats the same dialogue multiple times, each time using a different accent as if from another part of the world. The only change is the way the words are spoken, not what is being said. The work explores our biases and how dialects may change the way we respond to the words.
